That's because I never met a pattern I didn't like!

I’m Definitely Not Pattern Shy

I bought a couch! I’ve been lusting after West Elm’s Tillary Modular Sofa since I took an impromptu trip there a few weeks ago. I chatted about it, showed Brad, and visited Raymour and Flanigan to see if something else came close to making my heart beat as fast as it did. When nothing did, I knew it wast the one… except for the price. I’m a first time homebuyer kids, and since I’ll be buying a new construction, I’ll need to purchased a refrigerator, washer, and dryer right after closing and really can’t afford to splurge on this lovely guy.

So I did what any broke, twenty-something does… I took to Craigslist! After a few days of searching on SearchTempest.com (they make it easy to search Craigslist), I found one with most of the pieces I wanted – 2 sofas, 2 backs, and 1 corner – all for only $1100. Ideally, I’d just want another corner. Figuring I’d offer $900 and meet in the middle at an even $1000, I was pretty set on getting it, pending any deal-breaking stains, tears, or smells. Shot off and email for more pictures, queried if it was in a pet-free, smoke-free home, and waited. The response was all positive; I was excited. But just to be sure, I asked for a few close-up pictures so I could decide for certain before making the trek to see (and get) it.

The next morning, as I went through my normal morning routine, I logged into the computer and just happened to visit West Elm’s site and, lo and behold, the sofa I wanted, in the color I wanted, was on sale for ONE DAY ONLY, which made the difference between the used Craigslist one and the new one only a few hundred dollars. What’s a girl to do?

I decided to suck it up, stop thinking about what I could do with that extra money, and get the new one (and the ottoman which I hadn’t planned on getting – oops)! While I’m aiming to decorate on a budget, recessionista and DIY style, a few hundred dollars for a new couch that I don’t have to wonder what people did on it just seems worth it. (PS. The girl never got back to me which makes me even happier I went this route!)

So, now that I have a couch I need to figure out what else is going in the living room, maybe some of these lovelies?

Pretty right? I’m a fan of modern, simple patterns, so I’m sure the room will be filled with them. Some might think it looks like a pattern-maker threw up (too graphic?), but if done right mixing patterns looks chic… so that’s the plan!

Speaking of plans, I made a new floor plan to incorporate the new couch (and future rug, behind-the-couch table, patterned ottoman, and stools at the island that I hope to eventually purchase). What do you think?

Thoughts or suggestions? I’d love to hear from you!
